Our founding vision: recognizing every child's brilliance
Learning Futures Collective originated from what our founder witnessed throughout her career as an educator, principal, and district leader: too many Black and Brown children were recognized for what they struggled with long before anyone recognized their brilliance.
She saw children with tremendous curiosity, creativity, leadership, and problem-solving abilities overlooked because their gifts did not always appear in traditional ways. By the time many received enrichment or were considered for gifted education, valuable years and opportunities had already passed.
Learning Futures Collective was created to change that story. Our founder envisioned an organization that would not wait for children to struggle before investing in them—one that would help families, educators, and communities recognize and nurture their potential early. Our work is rooted in a simple belief: every child deserves to be seen for their possibilities, not defined by perceived deficits.
Our core beliefs and guiding values
Learning Futures Collective is guided by the belief that every child carries brilliance—and that opportunity should not depend on race, income, ZIP code, or whether a child’s gifts appear in traditional ways.
Our core values are:
- Equity: We work to remove barriers that prevent Black and Brown children from accessing early enrichment, gifted education, literacy support, and meaningful opportunities.
- Early recognition: We believe children’s curiosity, creativity, leadership, and problem-solving abilities should be recognized and nurtured before they struggle or receive a formal label.
- Strength-based learning: We focus on children’s possibilities and gifts—not perceived deficits.
- Cultural responsiveness: Children deserve learning experiences that honor their identities, communities, voices, and lived experiences.
- Family and community partnership: Families are a child’s first teachers, and lasting change happens when parents, educators, mentors, and communities collaborate.
Meet our founder and dedicated team
Learning Futures Collective was founded by Dr. Marva Jean Tutt, a lifelong educator, former principal, district leader, and advocate for educational equity. Her passion comes from witnessing too many Black and Brown children being recognized for their struggles before anyone recognized their brilliance. She created the organization to ensure children’s curiosity, creativity, leadership, and gifted potential are seen and nurtured early.
Dr. Tutt is supported by a growing collective of educators, mentors, board members, families, volunteers, and community partners who believe that a child’s access to opportunity should never be determined by race, income, ZIP code, or whether their gifts appear in traditional ways.
What unites the people behind Learning Futures Collective is personal: we have seen what happens when children are overlooked, and we know what becomes possible when caring adults recognize their strengths, speak life into their potential, and create opportunities for them.
